Washington, DC -- As Congress considers what to include in an upcoming infrastructure package, Representative Rosendale is fighting for the reauthorization of the Keystone XL pipeline. Last week, Representative Rosendale identified the hypocrisy of the Biden administration’s pledge that new green jobs would replace those taken away by the cancellation of the Keystone XL. On Thursday night, Representative Rosendale took to the House Floor to highlight the detrimental effects Biden’s Executive Orders have had on Montanans. Specifically outlining how Fallon County has lost jobs, wages, and millions of dollars in tax revenue that would have been used to rebuild schools, roads, and other public projects. On Friday, Rosendale joined his Republican colleagues for a “Where are the Jobs?” forum. Representative Rosendale invited Fallon County Commissioner Steve Baldwin, who spoke and answered questions on how the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline has affected Fallon County. Baldwin said, “The coronavirus pandemic has devastated the economy in Fallon County, Montana. The cancellation of the XL pipeline will further exacerbate our already weakened economy. President Biden has an opportunity to signal that access to good-paying jobs is truly a priority for his administration, by reconsidering his decision to stop construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.”
Yesterday, Representative Rosendale and colleagues sent a letter urging Chairman DeFazio and Ranking Member Graves of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, to include bipartisan language that reauthorizes the Keystone XL pipeline in any upcoming infrastructure legislation. The reauthorization of the Keystone XL pipeline would create thousands of high paying jobs, ensure our energy independence, and reinvigorate our local communities. It would span over six states and would have the capacity to transport 830,000 barrels per day. If completed, it will be the first pipeline in the U.S. to operate with net-zero emissions when placed into service. “I’ve fought on behalf of this project for nearly a decade now,” Representative Rosendale said. “It's become increasingly important to make up for the damages experienced throughout COVID-19, this project would give our economy a much needed boost. The Keystone pipeline benefits Montana and America as a whole, it's time to bring the jobs back home.” |
