WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) joined the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs as the Committee held a markup on 23 bills. Rep. Rosendale spoke on the following legislation: H.R. 705, The Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act, H.R. 6538, The VA Correct Compensation Act, H.R. 6531, Train VA Employees Act, and his own bill, H.R. 6874, The VA WEB Act. Regarding Veterans’ Gun Rights: “Treating a veteran who needs help managing their money [with a] fiduciary as a criminal is wrong. Veterans served our country honorably, and I am outraged that if not for Republican efforts the VA would still be treating them like second class citizens. Additionally, the Supreme Court…established the Second Amendment to be a fundamental right applied equally to the federal government and states. The way the VA previously interpreted the statute was blatantly unconstitutional and an affront to the Supreme Court and the separation of powers.” Regarding VA Staff Accountability: “The Committee has done important, partially bipartisan work investigating the Office of Resolution Management, Diversity, and Inclusion Office. The investigation has made clear that many VA employees in management positions lack the necessary skills, temperament, and judgment to be in leadership…I want to be clear: I am not against ensuring employees are properly trained. I do not believe, however, that training alone can solve our problems. It needs to be easier to hold bad employees accountable and every Democrat on this committee voted against Chairman Bost’s bill H.R. 4278 which would have resolved this issue.” |
