Rep. Rosendale Renews Objections to Biden’s Illegal Resettlement of Migrants into Montana

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) released the following statement after a recent report exposed a group of illegal aliens were secretly flown into Kalispell by the Biden administration. Rep. Rosendale has objected multiple times to the mass resettlement of migrants in Montana and also sounded the alarm about the dangers of migrant relocation in 2021 after an Afghan parolee was arrested in Missoula for the rape of an 18-year-old girl after he was brought into to the country without proper screening.

“Since President Biden began releasing his border crisis onto Montana, I have demanded he be held accountable and his actions be reversed,” said Rep. Rosendale. “Montana is not a sanctuary state, and I urge Governor Gianforte to use every authority at his disposal to refuse the resettlement of illegals in Montana. It has been proven that alien relocation in our state has been unsafe, unmanageable, and unsustainable to our communities.”

Key Background:

  • On September 16, 2021, Rep. Rosendale strongly opposed the resettlement of 75 Afghan nationals in Montana.
  • On October 12, 2021, Rep. Rosendale introduced H.R. 5572, the SECURE America Act. This bill would ensure thorough refugee vetting prior to admission, end the authority of the Secretary of Homeland Security to parole aliens into the country and reclaim and expand the authority of Governors and Congress over the process of admission and resettlement of refugees. He re-introduced the legislation on January 9, 2023.
  • On October 21, 2021, following the tragic report of a young woman raped by an Afghan migrant in Montana, Rep. Rosendale called for the Biden administration to immediately halt the resettlement of Afghan nationals across our nation and to remove Afghan evacuees that have been resettled from the United States.
  • On October 3, 2023, Rep. Rosendale sent a letter to the Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, Robin Marcos, demanding a complete halt to migrant resettlement in Montana and across the country, following the report of 115 refugees from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Honduras will be placed in Billings, Montana.
  • On November 30, 2023, Congressman Matt Rosendale sent a letter to Montana Governor Greg Gianforte requesting support to stop the federal government from sending Afghan migrants to Billings.
  • On February 6, 2024. Rep. Rosendale, an original co-sponsor of the articles of impeachment, voted to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
