WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02), sent a letter to Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner Daniel Werfel urging smarter utilization of Health Saving Accounts (HSA) to incentivize better health outcomes for Americans.
An HSA lets patients put aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualified medical expenses. It also makes it easier to spend money on preventative measures to improve health before getting sick. Yet, the IRS continues to prevent HSA dollars from going toward direct primary care arrangements (DPC arrangement). By preventing HSA dollars from going towards a DPC arrangement, the IRS is making this innovative option unaffordable for most Americans.
“It is a priority of mine to ensure Americans have an abundance of healthcare options that fit their needs. The IRS must eliminate unnecessary restrictions that hinder HSA access and enable Americans to make healthcare decisions that work best for them and their families,” Rep. Rosendale said.
