Rep. Rosendale Votes Against America Last Foreign Aid Package

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) voted against four pieces of legislation that combined will send $100 billion of American taxpayer money overseas. H.R. 8038 The 21st Century Peace through Strength Act, H.R. 8036 The Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act2024, H.R. 8035 The Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act2024, and H.R. 8034 The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act2024, will do nothing to secure our catastrophically open border, will be transmitted to the Senate as multi-subject legislation, and will open the door for portions of the aid to be used against our ally, Israel.

“I refuse to send funds our country, and our taxpayers, do not have to fuel foreign conflicts,” said Rep. Rosendale. “The $100 BILLION price tag of these four pieces of legislation, combined with the backwards logic of sending money to both sides of the war in Israel, and the inclusion of the American dollar-jeopardizing REPO Act makes this one of the most America Last pieces of legislation in our history. Moreover, Republicans circumvented their own rule about single-subject legislation to send this Biden-Schumer endorsed package to the Democrat Majority Senate.”

BACKGROUND:

- A provision in H.R. 8034, The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024will send $9 billion to Gaza which is what caused Rep. Rosendale to oppose the legislation. While Rep. Rosendale approves of defending our ally Israel and approves of sending resources after the attack this past weekend from Iran, he does not believe the United States should be funding both sides of the conflict in the Middle East.

- Rep. Rosendale voted against H.R. 8038, The 21st Century Peace through Strength Act, although he believes the TikTok ban inside of the bill is favorable to United States security. The inclusion of the REPO Act and the potential harm it could cause to the stability to the United States dollar caused him to ultimately oppose the legislation.

  • On March 13th, 2024, Rep. Rosendale voted in favor of H.R.7521 The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act which decoupled TikTok and ByteDance to protect millions of Americans’ private information from the CCP.
