Rep. Rosendale Calls for Immediate Reconsideration of Cancelled Cattle and Crop Surveys to Support Local Producers

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) sent a letter to the Secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, and the Administrator of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Joseph Parson, regarding the recent decision by the National Agricultural Statistics Service to cancel the July cattle inventory survey as well as all county estimates for crops.

“This survey cancellation puts Montana’s small producers at a significant disadvantage against larger competitors while simultaneously undermining market transparency and stability,” said Rep. Rosendale. “The inventory survey is vital for providing crucial insights into the current status of the U.S. cattle and agriculture sectors in the middle of each year. I urge your agency to reconsider this decision urgently and to continue providing producers with the necessary information and tools they depend on to supply our nation with affordable, locally-grown beef and crops.”
