Chairman Rosendale Holds Final House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Technology Modernization Hearing

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Chairman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Technology Modernization presided over his final hearing as Chairman titled “Modernizing The VA: Lessons Learned in the 118th Congress.” The hearing reviewed the work of the Subcommittee throughout the last two years, which focused on addressing challenges with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) megaprojects like Electronic Health Record Modernization, Financial Management Business Transformation, and Digital G.I. Bill rollout. All these projects are facing severe challenges and have cost taxpayers billions.

“The potential benefits of modernizing VA’s IT systems are undeniable.”
said Chairman Rosendale. “With the right IT strategies, VA will deliver health care and benefits to veterans faster and better. But if VA’s leaders keep repeating the failed ways of the past, they will burn through billions of taxpayer dollars, only to be left with dysfunctional systems that do nothing to improve services for veterans. Today, the Ranking Member and I laid out the Subcommittee’s position—based on all the evidence we have gathered during the past two years—for how VA should be approaching IT modernization. VA should not be doing IT megaprojects. They just don’t work. They always turn into black holes, sucking billions of taxpayer dollars into contractors’ pockets.”
